He didn't say that he worked for the roads commision. His statement was "I work for a Michigan road contractor" which means that he contracts with the DOT for highway work.

Ever suggestion for cutting the cost of gasoline affects the economy negatively. Like it or not the economy is like the laws of energy. There is only so much money out there and when you reduce the cost of something to put more money in your pocket something else will suffer. Less gas tax equals less funds for new highways and the maintenance of the ones we have. It also equals less contracts given out to private contractors which will eliminate jobs. So after the fuel tax cut, some guy who doesn't have a job will pay several cents a gallon less for gas that he now can't afford at any price!
