What head gasket are you trying to use? A $20 Fel-Pro (pn 7744sbx) that I use is big enough to fit over the oversized valves on the POS Jerry's head. So unless your valves are REALLY REALLY hanging out, it should work.

The FEL-PRO head gasket is a steel sheet on one side and fiber composite on the other. I've never had one blow in 5 or 6 years in using them. The old Victor gaskets were copper/steel sandwiched together. I don't know if those are still available or not. Mike

You must have a Jerry"s head. That's too bad, cause you're gonna regret it. But, anyways, yes, relieve the ring some on the front of your block and measure what you need to clear the valves and order a copper gasket from Lubbock gasket in Texas, I think is where it is. You will need to send a stock one along for the stud hole pattern for them, but a copper gasket can be reused. If someone ever asks you if you want to sell that head....Dump it! Get a heisler and do a little work on it. You will be much happier. Big Jugs.
