I pull a 41 h farmall that has this gear in it took the cotton stiper of it tractor does great in a heavy class but is just to slow for the 3500 then i pull second gear. with 12.4 38 or 13.6 38 now put the 16.9 38 on her and she does good to 5500. but the real fun is watching the jd boys cry when it wount move in the slow race them guys cant belive a farmall will go that slow.

Didn't know they made a conversion like that, but
that would be a neat deal for pulling in stock classes.

Actually the Set up you are referring to is Called the " Orchard Gear " it is referrenced by a Suffix Letter in the Serial Number at the End . I can find out what the Letter is , but Unfortunatley my Memory is Not Kicking in right now.

1st and rev gears are needed its called low-low gear IH part no.60215DA a lot of truck farmers used them to plant potatoes, and veggies, corn farmers called the chopper gears to slow down a M to chop corn to blow in silo, last I heard they cost $600-$800.O4 and OS4 have the slow gears also.

We have 2 super m's with the low gear. One we pull is tough to beat in a heavy class on a hard track. 7500lb. class or 8500lb.class may be able to help you find one for a H.

With certain M's by serial number you can slow down first and third gears with certain serial numbered W-6 gears. It's like one tooth smaller on the driver gear and two or three larger on the slider gear. You go by matching the lower countershaft part numbers, different serial numbers use different countershafts. Maybe H's and W-4's have the same thing in common. Go to an IH dealer and look in the old parts books to find out. Good Luck

Very, very rare AND hard to find. Replacement gears replace 1st,reverse and the sliding gear. Was an option for H or M. I saw a guy with a slow gear H dominate on a good biting power track and then the next year do poorly on a very hard track (yes Jim B.,TN you still are the man in my book!). The tractor had so much torque that it spun out on the hard track. 3 years ago heard of one going for $600.00 and have not seen or heard of one since.

My buddy Chad Maxwell in Mattawan, MI has a 1939 H with the low-low gear. His woman, Betty, does very well in barnyard classes with that old thing. Even if if it isn't quite as fast, it can use it's power (or lack of) a little better. i'm not sure where you would find one of those units.
