I have a 466 with stock pump, 3LM466 turbo, and bored injectors. I pull in a stock rpm class, will water injection help? If it will, where is the best place to get the pump and nozzle?

What temp does the pyrometer read at the exhaust turbine entrance & what temp is the air from the turbo compressor?

I never have looked at the pyrometer during a pull, but when I drive it to a pull it will reach around 900 or a little better. Should I put a temp. gauge on the turbo compressor and moniter that? What temp. do I need on both to make water injection work? Any info would be great thanks for the reply.

Watch the pyro when you pull. I pull a Dodge diesel truck and I sink my pyro way past 1500; it's probably past 2000 in all honesty. This is very unhealthy on the turbo and head. I found a hairline crack in every cylinder between the injector hole and valve when I blew my head gasket. I think the highest recommended temp is 1350 for turbo diesels. If you have a lot of fuel then you will probably sink the pyro. If you are spinning the turbo real hard, then it is probably running out and above it's operating map. This causes the compressed air to get very hot. Boost will also play a big role in water injection. If you inject in the crossover pipe, you need plenty of boost to distribute the spray evenly to all the cylinders. You can also inject right into the turbo propellor but it is not recommended because it can cause blade degradation and can slow the turbo down some. As for pump and nozzle, you can use a pump off of an agriculture sprayer. I have one that is 220psi that I got from Northern Tool & Equip. It is 12v and draws 15 amps. You can operate the pump off of your boost by wiring in a boost switch that will turn on the pump at a preset boost number. As for nozzles, you can use ether injection nozzles that the IH tractors use. You can drill them out to the size you want. If not those nozzles, you can get a nitrous fogger nozzle from Summit or Jegs that will work even better. The fogger nozzles have jet change out capability which allows for easier adjustment.

Smoker... I guess you are a TDR member??? (Turbo Diesel Register.) I just stick to pulling my Antiques, but have done some minor pump mods to friends Cummins... (I have a 24V... still fighting off the purchase of a box.. but the force is growing stronger.. hahaa.. ) JDGnut

A little off the subject...

Buy that box; heck, buy two and stack them. Hang a HX40 on the side and let it rip. You will have a brand new truck (or at least it feels that way). I'll stick to my 12 valve. Cheaper and easier to work with.

I have a question/statement to add... If you are adding water... I think you could also shoot in a little added fuel with the water.. (and I dont mean diesel) I do not know about this.. or how you keep it mixed.. or you could use some of the dual nozzels.. I this is out of my league here, but I have heard of this.. but I know nuthing about it.. maybe someone else can chime in here...

Haha.. I know it will be a new truck with the parts... The plan is a Hot comp box, with DD III injectors.. (Of course that will have to include a clutch too.. and maybe exhaust.. ) Not sure where the turbo will fit in... HX40.. PDR40 or 35... the B1 is way out of my $$$$$$ range.. Adjusted a friends stock plate on his 12V.. it was good for 270Hp on the dyno.. Now he wants a bigger plate, injectors.. and a turbo.. lol... But we are both trying to get the pulling tractors together before we get too deep in the trucks. We had a dyno day in Dallas a few months ago.. had a great time.. friends truck went 530hp.. man.. what a ride... and of course he's looking for a lot more.. ( the dyno run was with an HX40) He had a set of twins on it.. but wasn't satisfied with them.. so last I heard they were back to the R&D on them.. and back to the HX40 for now.. Well.. I've rambled on long enough.. catch ya later... JDGnut

As for mixing fuel, some mix denatured alcohol with the water and some run straight alcohol instead of water. Was the 530HP truck a 12 or 24 valve? I like those numbers. However, I am hoping to jump a little over the 700HP mark this spring. I plan on adding [censored] along with a lot of [censored]. Well, I can't give all my secrets away. There might be some eastern sled pulling TDR guys on here. HaHa! If you want a good clutch, go with Mitchell's twin disc. I have tried many and this one is the best. Talk to you later.

Diesel Dog.. I was mouthing at Smoker about the censored stuff.. Many guys spends lots of R&D time to gain just a little HP, and I don't blame them for not telling their tricks.. Especially on the web, where everyone/anyone can be watching. As far as the Nitro goes.. I have never messed with it.. now that U brought it up.. hhmmm.. a little here.. and little there.. lol... Only engine drugs I have messed with are LP and NOS.. and WOW.. what a difference.. lol... JDGnut

Well.. I hate to say it.. but the 530Hp was from a under valved 12 valver.. I know exactly what U mean by I plan on adding [censored] along with a lot of [censored]. Your secerets are getting out... everyone seems to be adding lots of [cersored] and make lots of HP... I'm going to have to get a can of [cersored]which should add at least 100Hp.. haha... Talk to you later.. What club or group do pull with.. I was out in Cal last year and got to see some of those sled puller run out there... Talk to U later...
