I have been pulling 35-4000 ibs. classes With a W D and 15.5-38 23 151s with 90percent tread. Should I be running 13.6-38 instead, or mybe 16.9-34 ???? I have plenty of power, am pulling 3500 in second gear. THANKS FOR ANY INFO.

I pull a wd-45 diesel, in 4000-4500 lbs. classes, I have 15.5x38 cuts and 16.9x34 sharpened, and the 34's is the ones I win with. I recently purchased a set of 18.4x38, I checked them up against my tractor, and they take a little modifing, you have to cut part of the right brake pedal off, for them to fit. I'm not sure I'm going to use them or not.

1morgan, you will get a lot of differing opinions on this. On any given day any size tire can find it's place. But as a rule, in the smaller classes a narrower tire will do better day in and day out. On a hard track the wide tires will almost "float" and not bite in to the track. A smaller tire often works much better and also does not add unwanted weight. Most folks will run 13.6, 14.9 or 15.5-38's in the 3500 lb. class. Also, the tires you have with 90% tread are probably not working as well as you might think. Odds are they are not hooking up and this can deceive you as to the power level of your tractor. There are proponents for everything but there are not a lot of reasons to ever have over 3/4 of an inch of tread on a pulling tire. You will suffer bar flex on a hard pull and if the tire ever does start to spin you will get a very large amount of dirt piled up in front of the sled, which you do not want. I have cut several tires for folks in the 7/8-1" range (at customer's request) and told them they wouldn't like them. They didn't and had them recut at a shorter bar height and liked them much better. Hope this helps. Mike

Put the biggest tire on the tractor rules allow and then make the horsepower to turn them. I am running a Farmall H in 35, 4, and 4500 and pull Cut 18.4x38 in division 3 and 4. Works great, works really good on a sloppy track, good hard tracks will stall the motor in 3rd and 4th gear with the big tires sometimes, drop a gear or find a way to make more power. I have never tried any tires other than 18.4x38 so this is all I have experience with.
