Synthetic Oil

I have a 53 SM recently overhauled, (about 50 hours on the engine) which I use for antique tractor pulls and some farm work. I am thinking of changing over to synthetic oil because it helps reduce wear and overheating under pulling conditions. What type of synthetic oil should I be using and are the benefits worth it? I appreciate any input.

Thanks for your .02. For an older tractor, this may be just enough.

I have good luck with syn. oil in two cars and one tractor. The tractor is a 1960 model 65 Massey. I overhauled it about five years ago and started using synthetic oil after it had been broke in. The price of the oil hurts the wallet but it is good stuff. One thing I have learned though is it will turn a motor that seeps oil into a motor that drips oil. I assume it dissolves all deposits from petroleum oils that are built up inside engine. Maybe it is a tribute to the good lubricating qualities of the synthetic oil but it can be a challenge to keep it inside the motor.

I have been running Amzoil Synthetic in both of my pulling tractors. I used light weight gear lube and 30 weight in the motors. Works real good, just have to have good tight seals on everything.

Shaefer's, bar none. I run it in my super stock, and it is some good stuff.

Thanks for all your comments..looks like I will be making the switch..I have heard that you should let a rebuilt motor break itself in..What do you consider broken in? I have about 50 hours on the SM.
