A Firestone Radial All Traction FWD-R1, size 380/85-R34 has a conventional size printed on it that says 14.9-34. The Firestone data shows the overall width to be 15.4 inches to be mounted on a 13 inch rim. That's the only 14.9x34 I've ever heard of and it's a metric measured radial with conventional conversions.

If anyone out there will look at a set of 16.9x34 or 16.9x38 Firestone 151 All Traction Field and Road tires, right under the 16.9x34 will read in smaller numbers 14-34, and on the 16.9x38 will read 14-38. That's about as clear as you're going to find it. I've seen some people try to slip 16-38 tires by as being smaller than 16.9x38s when they are really 18.4x38 tires. They just don't have the new dimensions on them as tires are measured today. It's really going to get interesting when people start using these metric tires!!!!!

Barenie,, your not gonna find the info your lookin for!! The answer lies in why the club wont let wheatlands pull! I love this subject in our club,,, it opens up a can of worms! Well, Ive thought of how we can accomidate this problem, but,,,, creates more problems than before,,, See, I think, we should allow a 38in tire rule for em all, allow pressed steel rims, and go! that gives the Wheatland tractors a 15.5X38 tire. even better, a 14.9X38. Sounds good dont it??? Till an AC WC,WD, WD45 comes in meeting our rules that just so happens to have 15.5X38 wheels on the rear! See what happens? two tractors, or two styles benefit, and the others remain the same,,, I say we split the difference! let us all have 16.9X34 max on the wheatlands, and let the AC run a 16.9,, what is it, a 24 or a 28 on the rear rim?? Since both models are affected, something has to be done,,, so why not give,, but keep em restricted,, No one wants a wheatland to have 18.4X34 as a replacement tire for the 14-34, when a 16.9 was the actual replacement tire for the 14-34!!! and the same goes for the small tired AC'S!! this gives em a little more tire width,, but not affects the rim diameters,, and, availability for both models affected by the rule. Heck, in the old days,, AC's ran 15.5X38 in farm stock!! Till we segragated farm stock from modifieds. No matter what happens,, someone is gonna complain bout it,, but, at least if something was done, they get to pull right???? Chad

CHADS

Preaciate your reply !! Most pullers won't take the time or have the guts to protest bored members ! As I cotinue to learn tire widths, their is a major problem with the club rule !

14.9 15.5 16.9 18.4 measure across the flats of the bars !!!!

looks like the wheatland will be pulling this year !
Also allowing a 16.9 to pull against a 14.9 or 15.5 in any class is stupid !
AS LONG AS i'M ALIVE IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN IN THIS CLUB UNLESS ALL CAN PULL THE SAME GROUND PSI FACTOR !!!!

YOUR OUT OF LINE AND WRONG AGAIN !

GOOD NIGHT !

HAHAHAHAHAAAA!! Yeah, right!! Put on the 15.5"s, run modifieds,, then in a few years, you can put that exact same tractor in the farm stock division! I thought you knew that!! Follow suit man!! LOL!! But, hey,, what do I know?? I pull Farmall"s! I dont have to deal with all that political BS to get the advantage. I just,, go with the flow! OR, I have a for sale or trade sign you can borrow till you find a row crop. LMAO!!! Once they allow pressed steel rims, then all the problems go away with the standard tractors,,, its already a modified division 1 class, might as well step up to division 2 rules! CHad

I don't have a dog in this particular hunt, but just to clear up some misunderstandings on tire measurements please refer to the diagram as you read this explanation. This is a cross-section of a tire. (My sketching skills are not that great but I think you can get the picture.) The numbers in a tire measurement such as 14.9 x 38 designate two dimensions on the tire. The 38 is, of course, the diameter of the bead of the tire, in inches, where it rests on the rim. The 14.9 is the OVERALL WIDTH of the tire, in inches, (outside of sidewall to outside of sidewall). Neither number refers to tread width, or width of the bars. Actual tread widths usually run 1 to 2 inches narrower than the overall width of the tire but there is no number on the tire that designates tread or bar width.
