Hi, I have talked to a few of you on here about slowing down my 41 A. I have it tore down right at the moment and would like to figure out EXACTLY how to do it. My 1st reduction gear part# is A12R, but my parts book says that is the spider gear number for the 1st rd. gear of later tractors. Can anyone tell me exactly what the part # of a later model A's reduction gear is so that I can slow it down, and what else I need to change besides the reduction gear?? Thank you very much, Luke

You will need all parts from a single shift lever A. Mine took: The big reduction gear, clutch assembly and you will need the throwout assembly on the side, the brass fork is smaller on a late A. I was able to use the same side cover.

Good Luck, Matt

Luke, I think you'll need to change to the late pulley, 1st reduction gear and the cover. I'm not positive, but a guy I know was telling me about doing this due to clutch tightness on my A stroker, due to it having to be so tight to lock in, he felt the late clutch would be better, I still agree with him although I never changed it because I got things working better.

Don't know the part number but if you take the clutch pully out of a late styled A with the creeper gear it will slow you down about 10 or 15 percent.

That's weird, a John Deere needing to slow down.
