I am wanting to raise the compression of my 39 JD B. How much can I shave off of the head and block? Is there anything I can do to the valves to get more horsepower? Do rockers on something that runs this little RPM give you much power? What kind of high compression pistons do they have available out there? What all procedures are involved in stroking an engine?

kinda depends on how much money you want to spend and what class your looking to pull in.i have 2 39 B that i pull one in farm stock and one div-3 on the farm stock i used late b pistons they are 4 11/16 plus .125 over, stock crank, port and polish the head.decked the block .125.pulled it 14 times last year and got 10 first and four second places.less than $1000.00 invested.on the other one i run a power block bored .125 and crank stroked to 7.5in.it takes a lot of grinding in the crank case to get that much strock but it will fit.i have over $5000.00 in it and it dont win as much as the farm stocker will.

grind out the intake passages this will gain you about 5 to 10 hp depending on how big you go dont sound like much but you will be able to tell the difference as far as planeing the head if you are running a stock 39 head it is flat and you wont gane any thing by planeing it.port and polish will gain air flow.wich means more power

All the porting and polishing in the world won't gain you 2HP on a stock B. Putting bigger valves and bigger carb will kill you unless you are Raising compression, increasing stroke and displacemnt.
