I had taken my M block and 450 head in to the machine shop going on 3 months ago, they were going to pull the sleeves, hone the cylinders, do a valve job, and turn the crank. I called yesterday to see how there doing, they couldnt get the sleeves out so there boring the sleeves out. I cant imagine what that going to cost me in labor, he said its going very slow. They havent touched the head or the crank yet. Has anyone removed sleeves by boring them?

I sure wouldn't write the check for whatever he decides to charge. They should have informed you of the situation BEFORE they started boring.

I'd like to do that but worried about not getting my head and crank back. I found a good SM block for cheap, I might tell him to keep the block, i;ll go buy that SM block.

With the right machine I could bore them out while you build a puller.

Ben, I would tell the SHOP to STOP . Thats ridiculous. There are many ways to convince sleeves to come out. Some run a mig weld right down the inside of the sleeves 180 degrees apart. This will shrink the sleeve and allow it to be " Looser" for removal. Some can heat Block and cool sleeve for removal. I made a sleeve puller for my Super M . I had a "Hockey-Puck" metal disc made with a diamter .010" smaller than my cylinder wall. It then had a step in the top edge for the sleeve to sit in . I tapped it fo 3/4" Threded rod. Then get a piece of 3/4" threaded rod ,some steel conduit larger than the cylinder, and you can spin the sleeves right out. The Machine Shop is gonna cream you on the Co$t with there method. After I had my Home Made sleeve puller, It was less than an Hour and they were out.

I second that notion! You call em up and tell them to stop! If they dont have a sleeve puller, then go find one, have one made, or take it to some one who has one. Even glued in sleeves come out with a good puller. Man, that can get to close to 100 bucks a hole to bore them out, thats not including what you wanna do, or buy parts! ChadS
