Don"t understand why everyone says a 14.9 has a larger footprint than a 15.5? Isn"t the 15.5 a wider tire? If not then why does it measure 15.5 inches sidewall to sidewall & the 14.9 is only 14.9 inches? VERY CONFUSED!

The 15.5 is a low profile side wall. The 14.9 has a taller side wall, witch makes it have a larger dia. This alows the 14.9 to lay down a larger footprint. The foot print is called flat plate, the flat plate is measured in sq. in. The flat plate for a15.5 is 189 sq in. for a 14.9 it is 200 sq in. What you must rember is the larger dia. of the 14.9 will gear up most tractors but the larger dia will climb out of a hole easer. Hope this helps C.S.

I belive it is becuase the side wall is taller on the 14.9 there for puttin more tire down on the ground were as the 15.5 is a lower profile short side wall there for it isnt as tall.

Actually firestone has three different 15.5's with each having a different size.B F Goodrich has some also along with co-op and air preasure plays a huge role. There are different side wall constructions aome will wrinkle some wont.Yes its a nightmare and takes awhile to figure it out. Good Luck!!
