Oliver Super 99.......anyone pulled against them.??

I see them pull at Plain City, Ohio every year...

No one says anything about them...are they always so GOOD at the pulls, or are the ones I see just unusually AWSUME...?????

Hope you guys show up at Plain City, Ohio- this July, to Beat them..!! I think it is called " Hocking Valley Steam Show", Plain City, Ohio. I hope this does not scare everyone away....!!!! Those "99"'s are some Horrible sounding tractors.!! I'd hate to sit on one all day long.... I Hate the sound of a Detroit Diesel...!!

That engine, and ever other Detroit is also used in marine applications at over 2 times the rated hp of land based applications. this is due to the massive cooling abilities allowed with seawater. BUT you CAN run those same specs, if you dont let it get hot. The 2 strokes sceam because of large unrestricted intakes letting the supercharger noise out, plus the open exhaust adds its own notes. As has been said in this same post, anyone with some GM Toro-Flow savvy, can make some real shaft twisters out of any of them. small things like supercharger setup specs, rack settings, fuel nozzle tips, all can produce huge increases in power. If your having problems with a stock Super 99 GM now, pray that neither I nor my brother has played with it. Not bragging, or Bsing, its the honest truth. And any other GM trained diesel tech either for that matter.

I'm in coast guard and I work on detroits on a regular basis the 6v92ta is an example of a small engine putting out 450 Horsepower it has a blower(of course)and a turbo,might I mention our policy only allows us to run them at 65 percent our manuals all say their rated at 700 Horsepower.

My Brother graduated second in his class from The US Coast Gaurd engine school, was a Detroit Engine Man, down in Belrikka same place you went i bet. DO i understand this to mean you agree with my post regarding the GM 2stroke? I have seen marine spec'd Cummmins rated at 1000 hp and more, same engine runs 450 in a road tractor. i understand some of those Marine 8v92TA put out an honest 900 hp in civilian craft. I bet a 4/71 could do 300-325 with the right injectors, and some other tinkering.

I totally agree I think those engines are amazing I think with the right tinkering the guys with the super 99 could beat any tractor you put against it I did some work on one last year for a friend and at our county fair he beat a 1066 international and a 4020 jd He totally mopped up he!

There is a guy pulling a GM super 99 around here but there's nothing special about it. I've seen it beat by 830's 820's and moline GB's. there's a lot I don't know about these tractors and how "stock" any of them are. They do sound mean.

These are one of the meanist tractors around, they can pull very competatively to how ever heavy they want to. I have never seen a 830 or 820 out pull a 99 or 990. I have a 1960 1900 with 4 cyl and I suck those JD in the blower and out the exhaust, with no problems!!!!

Don't know where you guys are all at but its the same scenario in southern MN and northern Iowa. Tough, Tough tractors to beat. Used to work with heavy machinery, lots of "Screaming Jimmys". Do know if the right person is working on them, high horsepower gains are easy, since 71 parts bolt right up to the 53's turn up the RPM's and away ya go, making the crowd def as you scream down the track

The 99 oliver in the stock class are just almost
unbeatable from what I have seen. They give the
830 John Deeres a real lesson on pulling. In the 10,000 to 11,000 pound class they stay right
in there and pull, and have the power to spin out
where the John Deere's and some of the others
don't.

ron. i have pulled against 99's an the massey's with same motor. they are tough up to 11500. 12000 an up have not had a problem with them yet.i think i will be at plain city ohio this summer(pending work schedule). i have yet to see one lug in the heavy classes. later richard
