I am thinking of buying a 1959 630 gas to do a little pulling. Would it be a better puller then my stock 41 A??? I am just woundering what a fare price would be for a rough 630 stuck. Has 3 point and power sterring. A little info would be nice. thanks

Why does everyone want to stroke the "A"'s, and the "G"'s....????? ??? Why would a JD 620--with a shorter stroke be a better puller...??? At 302 Cu. In., It CAN'T have as much TORQUE as a well built "A"..... ... Maybe you are thinking that it can because of the extremely slow 1st gear...??? I think that when the gonades are to the Wall.....the "A" will win...If equally Built....

The 620/630 engine were built to be efficient. That's how they make more HP from fewer cubic inches. Most are still in farm use as they can be had with three point hitch, power steering, live hydraulics & live pto. The letter series get cut up into pullers because they can be stripped lighter.

The 630 is the better puller. Get it as cheap as you can, but keep in mind if the 3 point is original equiptment, and you can get it looking good it's worth between 800-1000 dollars, and the rear wheels are worth 150 a piece, a couple hundred for your front end, and the transmission gears can be sold, so needless to say your 630 is worth probobly 1500 as a parts tractor, if you decide not to fix it up. I'd like to find one like that just for the experience of fixing it up. Good luck, Greg H.

Can't help on price, but you may be able to sell the three point hitch to get some of your money back.

The 630 stock for stock will eat the A. The reason is gearing and rpm. I almost bought a rough old 630 and he wanted 1800 for it and it ended having way more troubles than the guy had thought. The 630 will pull good from like 6500 to 8500 if not more, but your A is good for about 4500 and 5500 and that is it, if it has tin wheels. Are you planning mods for either tractor, as this could make a world of difference. They weigh about 1000 or so lbs difference stock, close guess.
