which weight type is better

I will be attending a few local pulls this year and was wondering which is better for weight. Suitcase weights or wheel weights. I have a Farmall MD with a very heavy front end. I need to have both wheel and suitcase weights to get into any class over 7,000 lbs. Just wondering if one type is better than the other.

The 7000+ weight class for a regular MD seems a little too much for a MD to handle. I know a puller that pulls a Super MD at 6500 and he usually powers out on a harder track, but I guess it depends on the setup of your sled. Some sleds pull considerably harder than others.

Last year I pulled in 8000lb farm class and spun out in 2nd gear with a broken roll pin in my injection pump. I have the fuel turned up now and have only 13.6x38 tires on it. I could not spin the tires in 6000lb farm when I had my 18.4x34 tires on. The narrower tire gives me just the slippage that I need.

Suitcase weights are much easier to handle.

It doesn't matter for handling purposes, I will have to remove most of them to pull in the lighter class and then put all back on to pull in the heavy class. I was just wondering if there was any benefit one way or another. By the way the tractor is a stock Farmall MD.

I have always figured that to make a winning pull you will need a well balanced tractor and get the most of your wieghts. With that said LEVERAGE is a way to get the most of your weights. Putting weights out to the farthest back / forward position you will get the most out of your weight. Suit case weights will be better suited to do this job.
