You didn't say if they were outhorsing you, or if you were spinning out.18.4-34 generally seem to do better than the 23x26 that you find. Worn tires generally better. 8-11LBS tire pressure-about 9seems good. 23 degree generally better that 45 degree tires. The R is about 7-8 inches longer in the front end which gives it a small advantage over the 80-830's. The R's final ratio is about .25MPH slower as well, but it is a 50hp tractor and should start struggling hp wise around 10k and up. Check your fuel filters and if you can get someone to check your transfer pump pressure do that. Get someone to show you how to turn up your rack a little or a lot. Add weights or water to the rear tires and between flywheel and rear axle. Most 80-830 will be front heavy, so plan on no more than 1-2 weights up there if needed. Also, set a good example by adding a set of wheelie bars...your big tractor may not really need them, but when you start winning others will watch you and know you play safe...Good Luck
