does anyone have any experience converting six cylinder HEI"s to a 560 style motor or RD style motor?

Thanks for the info. I've heard of similar setups and problems with doing this before. I'll check it out.

Since no one here has addressed your question, here's a suggestion: Go to oldihc.org, go to the "Truck Talk" discussion board, then the L-R-S-series board, and do a search on HEI conversions. The BD and SD truck sixes use what's virtually the same distributor [minus the tach drive] as the 460/560...and somewhere in the archives is a discussion on how to convert a HEI from a Chebbie six to work in one of these applications.

You have to shorten the shaft, slot the end of it, and add your own bronze collar for the oil pump drive end [available in the hardware section at Tractor Supply...1/2" ID]. Then, since the Chebbie distributor turns the "wrong" way for an IH engine, you have to get al Oldsmobile vacuum advance--assuming you're gonna run with one--and grind out a new location for the old advance and epoxy where the original advance was. Then you've gotta reverse the centrifugal advance, so that it advances rather than retards...

Sounds harder than it is...but someone on the oldihc.org board was making and selling these setups for around $85-100 a couple of years ago.

Hope this helps.
