I'm building a 59' 770 with an 880 engine pushed as far as bottom end will go. Having trouble on head though. I have an LP head, machine shop thinks i should get em a stock head to destroy, they have to open up the chamber alot. Is there anyhting else that will fit an 88/880 block?cross flow perhaps? Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Best head to bolt to an 880 block is the GK195U/1100MF/S99 head. Chamber can go to 4.5 bore easily. 2.05 intake valve size. 250cfm at .600 lift with some work. Nice head and what the best 88's with 4 main blocks are running.

I've built a number of these heads and do have a couple castings if you can't find one. They are pricey though as they are tough to find anymore.

The 1600 heads are not that great either. Only advantage over the 88 is the chamber size is smaller. An average 1600 head with 1 5/8 valves will flow 125cfm vs. 250 for a well-done GK195 head. If you want to be competitive go with the better head. Otherwise you will be a class filler.

$750 to $1200 for bare casting.

2 different castings, a big 148cc chamber and a small 128cc chamber. Either one is good for flow, the smaller one will bump compression.

No SN break to worry about to my knowledge.

They will with modifications. Better option is either JD 4020 rockers or Murphys 1100MF.
