I"ve been thinking about putting some bigger valves in my 460. I"d like some opinions on this. Stems on the 460 are 3/8. Some bbchevy valves have 3/8 stems and I think they"d be long enough. I"d like to use the smaller 11/32 stems though. Would it be worth it. Also, how big can/should the valves be. Stock 301, 2400-3000 rpm range. Ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the comments. I feel like the head can be greatly improved. It has a very tight short side radius and is very wide and flat. I would plan on some bowl work. I would think bigger valves would also help though. I realize that too big of a valve will kill velocity, but some thing a little bigger with a smaller stem would surely help. I"m also looking into different pistons to up the compression. The bigger valves would also increase comp. a little.

People are not usually keen on sharing secrets when it comes to pulling;-) My best advice is seek out a shop that rebuilds heads for racers and truck pullers. They will understand what you want to accomplish and help you build a head for the short block that you have.

Good luck.

If you are running a stock bore/stroke/rpm range the valves are probably sized idealy. If you go large on the valves, velocity will be to slow thru the throat to promote good cylinder filling.

Some bowl cleanup on a stock cast head will almost always without question show good improvements.

I guess none of my posts are worth anyone's time? Everytime I put something on here, no one will ever reply.
