Lets say,,,, a pulling club uses the agritronix sled monitor on their sled,,, and also have the second display unit up on the announcers stand,,, (follow me so far?) If I was to buy a single remote unit of the exact same model, and mount it on my tractor, and intercept, (but not tamper with) the "live" transmission from the sled to the announcer,, and use that unit as my speedometer on my puller,,,,, would that be considered cheating? Just thinking of what I want for Christmas this year,,,,, , What do you pullers think of that idea???? be nice now,,, Our club allows speedometers,, so I want the best I can get. Whats your thoughts?? ChadS

I have used a bicycle speedometer they cost $20 and mounted to the front wheel gives speed in tenths of MPH.

I checked with Agtronics earlier this year about this and was told they did not make a 12 volt receiver that one could use but thought it was worth looking in to and that the thought had not occured to them. So you might check. Also some of the 70 series Case tractors and maybe others had a radar unit that works good, I pulled a 900 Case of a friend of ours this summer that had one and it worked good.

Both monitors are 12 volt that are used in the units our sled/announcer uses. Ive seen the live broadcast on the monitor in our announcers stand,, it displays everything the sled monitor displays. Speed, distance,, etc etc. All Id have to do is get the duplicate reciver box, find the frequency the both broadcast on,, and BOOM! Live MPH, and distance right off the sled. Chad

Why not use a tach? Thats what i use. Catch the horn before the 75 ft mark, look at rpm and keep them at that. Works pretty well. Paid $50 for mine. Even illuminated for the evening pulls.

Ive tried that,,, the way I drive,,, the rpms fluctuate so much to get the best hook, renders it useless for my driving style. One year, I went to the extent of rigging up a bicycle speedo,, the darn display is so small cant see it. Chad

Don't think it will work. the two units are set for "send"(sled) and "receive"(judges stand) and talk back and forth. sign just listens, but only knows distance. 3rd wheel ruins the party. smoke

Ive seen the GPS work, and its fancy,,, but also seen it go out in the middle of the run,,, bird must have flown overhead and messed it up??? No, I dont think its cheating,,,, until it becomes the difference between 1st and 2nd place,,, then some one might get upset. Chad

You can get GPSs for $100 now. Youll know how fast you are going and you won't get lost going home.

Rich, I wouldn't suggest using GPS unless you are pulling 30mph. I don't think we'll get there. The way that they calculate speed is by sampling your position every xxx/1000 seconds. They have a certain accuracy to them, and for $100, it's not that great... At 3 MPH, you haven't moved very far, so the accuracy is terrible. Hence, the speed isn't as acurate as you'd like.

I have no direct experience with it, but a lot of guys up here are running gps or ground radar on their tractors. I could care less and will probably put ground radar on my M in the next year, but the SledMonitor idea works, too as that's what all the sleds up here have... Speed limit is speed limit, who cares how you get there. It's the same for everybody...
