im no expert on motors...and am wondering.. do u have to do anything to the head when u lengthen the rods to get a longer stroke, then it seem like it would come up and hit the head.

You need to get a book and study up on the operation and theory of the internal combustion engine. Stroke increases are a function of the crank throws. Increase the stroke 1/2 " and the piston will come 1/4 " higher than it did before. Therefore the piston/rod overall length must be shortened 1/4". Longer rods don't increase stroke , they change the rod/stroke ratio and lessen side load/friction on piston. Stroke increases volume , but it's the added leverage (torque) where the gains are highest. Increasing stroke also creates a lot more air flow velocity , and therefore fills the cylinders better even with low rpm's and same size valves etc. You can put longer rods in an engine if you make up for it with piston pin placement. But it won't increase the stroke and there's really not much to be gained by just that in itself.
