I am wanting to build a pulling tractor. I don't know what yet. Anyone have any suggestions for a good one?

Thanks guys, I have a tendency to favor IH tractors. Does anyone know of any easy motor swap combos for more power? I am just playing around. Any ideas?

Well, I waited as long as I could. Get a moline. Interchangeable parts make them easy and cheap to get HP. They are a naturally heavy tractor but w/ some creativity they can be gotten light. My U weighs about 4300 empty and it has no aluminum on it. Sorry folks, I couldn"t stand it anymore.LOL

Most folks can't see the forest for the trees. Maybe I should say they can't see the Prairie Gold for Red and Green. Different strokes for different folks. How did you replace all that cast iron with feathers?

I started w/ a UTS which has the lighter and higher geared rearend. It does have aluminum front wheels, aluminum radiator, and aluminum fuel tank. Homemade wide front and a lot of other nitpicking pieces. A lot of room to get it lighter if I could afford aluminum to build with.

Go with an oliver 88 or super 88, light weight and good power stock or modded, just cant beat 6 cylinders, now thats bang for the buck.

I've had lots of fun and success with my Farmall Super C. It had a good set of tires on it and the only other money I've spent on it was to get a narrow front pedistal to loss a few pounds. It helped balance it out better too. Like all the other posts said, pick a color and size and go have some fun.

I'd get a Farmall M or Oliver 77 or Allis Chalmers WC or WD or a late version of the late styled John Deere A and "try" to stay stock at first. You should get the most "bang for your buck" and learn a lot and you'll probably find out where you want to go from there. Everybody cheats in this game, some a little, some a lot, but it's still fun...if you keep it at a fun level. Don't use your groceries and rent money for this 'cause you'll never get it back. JMHO

Is he talking antique or other wise? Sure would be nice to know. I sure like the name bm3501466. Everytime I have a bowell movement (bm) it reminds me of anything IH such as a 350 or a 1466.

Antique I presume. What brand do you like? If there are several, what's the favorite of those several? Be sure to think about weight as you will be having to haul it around. I don't see that staying stock or going modified or open makes a difference. Stock = less money. Open = more money no matter how you slice it. I've chosen Case for 2 reasons; because that's what I grew up using, and I also like being different. Out of somewhere between 300 and 400 tractors at Tunica, I can only think of 4 including mine. When mine doesn't compete well, it's my fault for not weighting it right, or as in my first pull at Tunica, I forgot how much to screw out the load jet on my carb. DUH!!! Pick one and go with it. Don't give up if it doesn't pull well at first. Make adjustments and get better. Lots of pullers have been very helpful to me, and I'm sure most will be to you as well. Just have fun. That's number one.

If you want to pull light classes an A-C is a real good choice. Around these parts they are pretty inexpensive to buy and easy to find. As you go heavier most all of them are good but if you are real serious then it is hard to beat a good Oliver or Farmall. I'm not really knocking any of the other brands either as I have beat and been beat by then all.

It also depends on how much money you want to spend and how serious you want to get. They can all be made to pull really well with the right amount of cash input.

If your looking at staying stock and not doing alot to the tractor then heck about any of them will do,just pick your favorite color. Buddy of mine has a stock JD B and has outpulled my stock Oliver 77 several times, and vice versa. Hard to find alot of pure stock tractors though.

If your just getting started I would say get something that you like first and go have some fun. Once you get into it a little you might want to change brands or something but remember having FUN is the important thing. Hahaha I went to Tunica this year knowing I was going to be in the bottom 10 and it was probably one of the if noe the most fun I have had a pull in a long time!
