MN Dave, all good ideas. Here's what's happened in my experience with each of these ideas, right or wrong. Look at Tunica, for example, the Farmstock class is supposed to be stock tractors - find me one that finished in the top 5. ** "limit the farm stock classes to "if it didn't come that way from the factory, don't pull it", " --- So, you can hide and M&W piston kit, Firecrater, etc. You can stroke the bejesus out of it, but God Forbid, you put a Powerblock in there... ** limit the stock classes to "no cut tires" --- Here's the whole road worn vs. cut arguments starting. ** 1st gear --- So people can start swapping out/making gears to go faster because they've built the motors to handle more speed. Then you have the tractors that were built with a creeper gear and those that 1st gear is 3MPH. I like a speed limit, combined with RPM, it's the great equalizer. ** 10% over RPMs --- Agree 100% ** hot classes "run what you brung and hope you brung enough" --- Amen, brother, as long as there's some limit on RPM to keep it safe for everyone and some class between this and stock. ** Don't pull for money, just for 1-2-3 place trophys. --- I hate trophies, nice to at least get your fuel and entry fees back though. I feel for BushogPapa but if there's competition, somebody will do a little extra to win. Even if you take a stock bore/stroke tractor that you've rebuilt with hi comp pistons, your tractor is stock in your mind, but now has a leg up on the competition... As Earnhardt said in an interview right before the Daytona he got killed in. "I Hate restrictor plates. I thought we were here to see who could go the fastest." It'd be nice if everyone just played by the established rules and picked their class. Hard to find a "stock" class though.
