Hey Im looking for some advice on whether bigger tires and higher weight classes would be better than smaller tire lower weight classes on my 49 JD A. I have a set of 12.4 38's but i want to go bigger. The largest i can go and get into a 4500# class is 13.6 38 where as i could go up to 15.5 or 16.9 38 in the classes above. Any imput appriciated.

is it a straight 6 or a 2-shift, our straight 6 pulls excellent in the heavy classes and loaded 14.9's. However our 2-shift A has to be pulled light due to the faster trans.

Cabbage, If you are running a 49 A you will probably fare better in the lower weight class and maybe go up to a maximum of 13.6 x 38. Your fast first gear on that tractor will be a hindrance in the upper weight classes and if you go with a bigger tire they will require more power. As the previous poster mentioned it will all depend on the track and the amount of power you are generating with that 49 A.

Sorry not to give a definitive answer. It all depends on the day, the track, and where you pull during the day. The variables are unlimited. Just make sure you are having a good time. best, Yeoman
