Hello, my son and I have a 39 unstyled G that we took to a winter pull last year and entered it in the 6000# stock class. We mounted 5 100# wts on each side of the back side of the rear end. The tractor pulled ok and we had a blast at the pull meeting alot of great people. We finished last and that was fine, like I said it was a blast. My question is, is there a better location to be mounting these wts? The tractor is pretty much stock, we have 14.9x38 tires with real good tread. I put about 5# of air pressure in them. Any advice would be great and if not that's fine to. Thanks!

Thanks for the help guys. The pull is an indoor track also used for Rodeos. Last year the old G ran out of traction long before the power gave up. Thanks again!

Best advise I would give you is first check the rules on weight placement and put the weight as far back as allowable, and only as much weight as needed up front to allow the front tires to float off the ground toward the end of the pull. A good hitch setup as high and short as the rules will allow, this will help to maximize weight placement. Air pressure for 6000# of about 12-15 lbs. air pressure sound about right. Check your holes left by your tires when you spin out at the end of the pull, they will tell you whether you have the right tire pressure. If you have the center of the tire print taller than the outer edges your pressure is to low, however if your tire print is deeper in the center than the outer edges then your pressure is to high, you want a nice even tire print. Just look back at your tire prints as you pull away from the sled after your pull. Really good tread can also rob you of some horsepower with to good of grip, look for a road worn tire with about 1/3" tread for best use of the stock horsepower you have. Just a few tips that hopefully will help.

I pull with a 50 JD G and I found that I need at least 200# of weight on the frontend of tractor. I have the basic weight placement as you with 3 sets of wheel weights and brackets for hanging weights. I would,in my opinion, would be to increase tire pressure to about 10-12lbs of pressure. This will also depend on the track condition. I run 12-15 lbs in my tires and I"m running 14.9-38 firestone f&r. I pull in the 6500-7500# classes.

We run 12 psi. on our G. Getting the hitch as close to the rear end [18" back around most places] from the hook point. Be sure as stated its as high as possible [once again 18" high around here] Spinning your tires backward will give them the same angle as road wear. Just hook the G to another tractor or pickup and spin away. If you end up with too much traction and not enough ponies and run out of power, don't be afraid to drop the hitch a half a inch if need be.
