Whats the stroke on a car motor !

What type of pump gas, are you running, in your pulling tractor !
If the stroke is twice as much, and rpm's are half, whatch ya got at mid range rpm's, the same !

Hey tractor pullers, how do you drive the piston to the bottom, aint with hot gas !
Need hp?

Answer the question correctly ! Everybody wins !

ON SHORT RODS WE KEEP THE FLAME FRONT IN FRONT OF TOP DEAD CENTER WITH IGNITION TIMMING. IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE FLAME FRONT ONLY CAN BE DEGREEES BEFORE OR DEGREES AFTER . THATS WHY DEGREEING A CAM IS SO IMPORTANT IN PERFORMANCE MACHINE. INTAKE RUNNER AND GAS SPEED ALSO IN EQUATION . HOOK MAG THIS MONTH HAS ARTICLE ON GAS SPEED . UNFORTUNATELY ON MY PULLING ENGINE DUE TO RUNNER SIZE ITS ALITLE MORE THAN DOUBLE THEIR MAGIC NUMBER

SORRY I WAS INTERUPTED BY TH DOORBELL.POWER IS ALL ABOUT FILLING THE CYLINDER WITH CFM AT LOW CAM LIFT. IVE ALWAYS LOOKED AT FLOW NUMBERS AT .200 LIFT.

I do believe the flame lasts longer in a long stroke engine simply because , given the same bore size , it draws in more mixture at a higher velocity which fills the cylinder more completely. The added bennefit is that the force is applied to a longer "lever" which creates more torque yet. Given the same cu. in. , an engine with a 3" stroke has to turn approx. twice the rpm as a 6" stroke to get the same torque. And remember , horsepower is a computation of a torque measuement. Torque is a measurement of volumetric efficiency. I'm sure the law of diminishing returns applies to length of stroke as it does to almost anything else. Long stroke requires more strength and that means more weight. A short stroke engine can and has been made with powdered metal rods and very light weight cranks. They require more valves per cylinder , overhead cams and forced induction to get the rpm needed to make the power of a long stroke "mountain motor". And then it's such a narrow rpm band that you better be "spot on" with gearing and traction. It's also more critical to use the correct high octane fuel in a long stroke motor because it burns longer which makes for a longer duration "push" on the piston and hense , more torque. So I guess I don't agree with B Barenie.

Going on vacation in 2 days, need to work a good 18 hrs day, at least 2 in a row to leave !

I almost read the last post, But I'm assuming hp-torgue is lost because of 70 octane gas in the old days ! The new hot gas and or 93 octane gas ain't making it to the bottom. Vacuum is an absolute must. How do you over create it, and how can you drive the piston from explosion to the bottm ?
Cubes verses HP AIN'T makin it on this old Iron, as an under experienced builder, there is an absolute equation missed.
How do you slow the burn, and drive the piston ?

(ie) hang time !

Coming back next middle of next week!
Any tractor, with todays fuel, and more compression(not to much) should get happy and out hang what use to be in the 50's
(what i'm talking about here is a stock motor with compression bumped to run todays fuel !
