What fuel should i run, i have a 4.25 bore x 4 stroke, compression is at 230psi, should i be running jet/racing fuel, or a ethonal mix, and what percent 50/50? if i do run a mix, do i need to bump the jet size up? i curently have jet fuel....just wondering if i'm running whats best for the most power for my tractor. thanks

Jet A-1 has an octane rating of about 25. Why run it in a spark igntion engine? It is good clean burning stuff in all fuel engines. Makes a good mix with diesel in severe cold weather as well. As for gasoline for a long stroke, large displacment engine? Opinions and real world experiencedoes sometimes vary, however. 100LL from the airport is very very good fuel and costs little more than premium highway gasoline. Octane will run about 96-97 MON. If your natural aspirated engine won't run on that there is something wrong with it. Or cam timing vs. mechical compression ratio is out of whack. Best fuel may well be E-85 from the highway pumps. Fuel delievery rate will have to be approximently doubled. This is where dyno tuning of mixture and timing really pays off.

YOur choice.. they (avgas or ethonol/gas mix, not jet!) both do the job... What is available? and it depends upon what rules you run... some clubs don't allow alcohol and check.. others don't allow but don't check... others only check specific gravity (mostly to keep out the nitro)... and some don't care.. To be clear of problems, I go with the avgas.. also you don't have to retune the carburetor as much to get it to perform. just my opinion.. Jim

John is correct. That's why it smells like kerosene at the airport.
