I just got hold of a DT 466 out of a truck. I have a M, H, and a 460 sitting around. I have heard that the bell housing are too small for a 466 to fit in the 460 or the H. Will it bolt up to the M? What back plate do I need to use? clutch, flywheel? etc Can I just extend the frame rails? Let me know anything you have. Thanks, Josh

Bellhousing is the same from M right on up thorugh the 1466, with a few exceptions. You'll need the front cover from a 400 series tractor and side rails from an 806 or similar - don't bother welding onto the end of the M rails. If putting in an M look for a three bolt starter bell housing from an MD or super M and the starter from an 806, etc. will bolt right in and work with the M ring gear.

Flywheel and clutch will be your biggest challenge. Supposedly, if you take the flywheel from a 966 and have it turned down for an M ring gear they'll fit, but you may need to add a spacer to get the flywheel back to where it is on an M. If you're not going to turn RPM's or power, you could redrill a 450 flywheel for the 466 crank and use a spacer as needed to get it to where the M flywheel goes.

We have a 407 in an M and other than the flywheel it wasn't really that hard of a fit. Throttle linkage got a little creative, and we had an autobody guy extend the hood about 6". We're in the process of redoing the flywheel/clutch set-up right now.... still brainstorming. Another M in the area runs a 466, and I'm pretty sure he said he's running the 966 flywheel.
