Depending on how heavy the tractor will be running, a wagon gear steer axle does work. I think the front end under this 460 of mine was right at 200#, thats with the steering cyl, frame mount bracket, and tires and hubs. Combine axle is a nice setup too, but kinda heavier built. I narrowed this one up to where I wanted it. I should have made it a pivoted axle, but, it runs pretty light classes and I drive it carefully. (but trust me, Ive tried to break it, but never even budged!) Hope this helps, ChadS

One more point on a wagon axle is you have to watch how heavy guage the steel is made from. the "Elcheapo" running gears with tin for the box frame,,, well, they make heavier guage steel units. This one used a hyd cyl for its steering, complete hydrostatic steering setup off a Ih combine, or off the 06-86 IH tractors. No heavy steering shafts, ran off a Ford power steering pump. Rack n Pinion steering,,, bolt it on, run the steering shaft to it up to the steering wheel, you got rack n pinion steering! Chad
