I would like the last eight of the vin number on the 2006 dodge truck with the 5speed automatic. I'm a Dodge Truck salesman - and to my knowledge - (not saying I know it all) they never made a 5speed automatic behind a Diesel. They made 5speed automatics behind the Hemi 5.7 and some of the other engines, but not the diesel. Give me the last eight of your vin# and I'll look it up. As far as 5.9 vs 6.7, yes we have had some issues with the new 6.7, but nothing that has not been resolved. Check engine lights (turbo involved), injectors, and fuel issues. As far as mileage, I've got several out that brag on 20+ mpg, but I also have a few that are saying around 13mpg highway. Someone said it best - the new things don't have all the bugs worked out. BUT - if you have not tried the new 6spd automatic with the exhaust brake - your missing out. This thing is awsome. You can toggle in between the gears and use the exhaust brake to drive it like a manual transmission. And all kinds of power.

Guy's I can't comment on the mileage of the new 6.7 just quite yet, but my 2001 Dodge 3500 4x4 5.9 six speed manual just got a unreal 21.6 miles per gallon pulling a heavy 18ft flat deck hay trailer out to Iowa to pick up a John Deere 215 flex head grain table. Got 16.8 mpg loaded coming back in a nasty head wind and running 65 to 75 mph there and back. It's tuned up a little and a good 4 inch exhaust from pinnicle power systems. I think Blaine (1206SWMO) rubbed off on me as my Saturday 1100 mile round trip was done in under 19 hours and spent around 2 hours loading and strapping down, ya I'm still burned out today and don't plan on downing this anytime soon, unless I find another good deal (haha). Running around home empty I can squeeze around 24 to 25 mpg's. My neighbor has a new 6.7 3500 and seems to only get around 15 mpg's empty. He's ordered a new exhaust and cold air intake to see if he can squeeze a few more mpg's. I'll let ya all know soon on the progress.

I'll junk my 2 pennies in the pot. I have an '01 and I go on dieseltruckresource.com quite a bit and have been watching the discussions go on about the new 6.7. Some of them have had some bugs, but they are being worked out. I think you find that with pretty much all models of vehicles that the first year of a new product is the worst, then the bugs bet better. I can say this, I test drove a 6.7 and it was silent. You could not hear the truck running. I test drove a stick, but it was flawless. Plenty of power. Hard thing is, my '01 gets such good mileage, I don't think I can get rid of it.

I have heard the 08's are getting way worse milage with all the new emissions garbage. I've heard 9-10 mpg unloaded.

I can help you out some on this post. I am running a 2007 Dodge 2500 with the 6.7 in it and I really can not tell much difference between it and my old (2004) Dodge 5.9 Cummins. It seems to have about the same pulling power and my fuel economy is about 19 highway and 13 pulling my tractors around. I can not say anything about the automatic as I am running a 6 speed manual. All in all, I would say if a blind man drove either truck and never seen which motor it had, he would say they were the same. I love it!!! It's a CUMMINS!!!
