JMHO,, I like a 263. With the right combo, it can do quite well! No matter what ci you run, take the time to gasket port match the exhaust ports and the manifold. Lay the stock manifold gasket on the head and compare. Best time spent is to match those up with the gasket. it will be totally different after that stage, and it will make power!! I used engine parts from a 403 IH combine,, Cyl head, governor housing, intake/exhaust manifold, distributor is what I had changed out. Shave half the material off the governor weights, convert the governor to a single arm lever (use the combine housing) 715 combine carb with an assortment of venturis,,, from 27-35. (27,29,30,33,35) Ign, ran points with lighter springs on the mechanical advance, accel super stock coil, with a resistor, autolite plugs and it was a relaible setup! 403 distributor was used. new cap n rotor. out of the 263 with that setup,,, 70-75hp at stock 560 rpm. Step it up to the 706-806 rpm specs and it will really come to life,, with a bigger venturi and a slightly different base timing adjustment. 100-110 hp isnt out of the question at all out a 263 at 2640 rpm. What ever ci you choose,, port a late combine or tractor head/manifold right off the bat. it will help your setup no matter what ci. Hope this helps,, ChadS chads3@hotmail.com or www.thetractorshop.com
