I think the gear rule and the mph is stupid.I dont have a hot rod tractor, but I do know plow speed is not in 1st gear, unless your tractor sucks

What kind of rules and classes do you have? Cut tires allowed? Tire size? Weight classes? Payback? Speed limit? Might be interested if our tractors fit inside your rules. Mike

ok our rules are like the associations kinda. we have our own sled. the rules we used last year are as follows..... 1. no one under 16 years old allowed to drive 2. tractors must pull in low gear 3. factory or supply wheels and hitch required 4. drawbar must be no higher than 18 inches and be a min. of 22 inches from center of axel 5. driver must obey flagman and track crew 6.tractors with torque must pull in low side of torque no shifting it allowed 7.driver must stay in seat at all times 8.there will be a 50lb weight allowance 9. driver must keep his feet on the platform at all times there might be a few added by pulling time but these are the main ones. the classes we pull are 3,000lb& under.. 3500.. 4000.. 4500.. 5000.. 5500.. 6000.. 6500.. 7000.. 7500..7500 open class our sled cant stop any supped up tractors so mostly has to be of stock value. can have a bore a bit but no stroked engines. we have no pay back of money we use the money in to pay for the trophys we give.note the speed limit is 2-3 mile a hour i believe.ill have to ask the sled man who is the head of us about cut tires i think you can but im not compleatly sure on that one. we try to be fair to all. we do it to put on a show and to have some fun and excitement in our little town.

Angie, to make life easier on you (and the other promoters) if you have a speed limit, don't have a rule about "low gear" only. It's almost impossible to enforce and if you have a strict speed limit, it's not needed. My 2 cents...

What difference does it make if you're in road gear or low gear if you're going 3 MPH?

The tractor going full throttle in low gear going 3mph will lose everytime to the tractor in road gear at 1/4 throttle going 3mph.

I really cant disagree with what you said, but I still believe that the speed limit is more fair than a gear rule. An AC-WC on 38" rubber will be A LOT faster in low gear than a creeper gear Deere. And just because the shifter is in the 1st gear slot doesnt necessarily mean the tractor is in the low gear it left the factory with. The 1st reduction gear on a Deere/ring and pinion on anything else can be changed to alter the factory gear ratio and it may or may not be obvious that something has been monkeyed with.

With a speed limit, it comes down to did the horn go off or not?
