The best I can tell from the pictures; the only thing above the center of the rear axle is part of the top stop screw for the drawbar. Unless there is something in the pictures on ebay I'm not seeing, this is a safe type of drawbar. If something were to break, the drawbar would pull straight out and that would be the end of it.

To the other posters: I 110% agree a TURNBUCKLE above the center of the axle is a bad idea!! Saw a guy d@mn near get killed when an IH-M came over backwards because part of the hitch broke and all that held was the adjusting turnbuckle way up by the seat.

Drew you are missing the factors! The swing drawbar that is hooked under the rear of the transmission were to break the coupling (or break a hole out of the transmission) and that piece could not pass through the opening, that drawbar could come at such a force as to snap all bolts except the top two. Where would the hitch be pulling from? Above the axle!! Anything is possible guys. Think safety! One accident is to many.

Points puller you didn't say what make of tractor you pull. Safety wise I realy don't care, but if the hitch is attached any where above the center line of rear axle it could be a safety issue. If you are hooking and no one is saying anything about it then it is not in their safety rules. Go have fun.

stock hitch is only 16" high and is not trying to 'lift' a sled. totally different application.

and, we probably know more about safety today than we did in the 40's and 50's, so lets use this knowledge to be as safe as possible.

AT MOST PLACES THAT HITCH WOULD NOT BE LEGAL. IT PULLS FROM ABOVE THE CENTER OF REAR AXLE. WE GOT TO THINK SAFETY GUYS!!! IF THE LOWER BOLTS WOULD SNAP AND PULL FROM THE UPPER MOST TWO BOLTS IT WOULD SLAP THE WHEELIE BARS AT SUCH A FORCE IT COULD COLLAPSE THEM. NATPA MADE IT A RULE FOR SAFETY.

Is this what you are talking about?

If so it pulls from under the tractor by the stock swinging drawbar location.

NATPA seems to think that all makes must use
John Deere type drawbar. A true stock Farmall
is not legal with it standard drawbar.

Have you ever looked at a stock IH hitch on a M, or H , they pull from above the center of rear axel, and I haven't seen wheelie bars on a old H working on the farm yet.

Not with the swinging drawbar in place.
