you don't need speed or alot of rpms for a dc to pull good. tune it up,

naked without any wheel weights you should weigh less than 5500 easy. water in tires, wheel weights will bring it up. don't be scared. I pull mine up to 8500 and it lugs down to about 3-400 while pulling. sounds good pulling down.

Hitch length should be as short as the rules allow, hard to do if your DC has hydraulics. Get the rpms up as high as your club allows. Stay up against the speed limit if there is one.If your tires have to much tread that is a detriment on most well prepared tracks. If you are dedicating it to pulling the tires should be prepared, at least a backcut, and not a lot of tread height. Get it into the lightest classes to maximize your power to weight. Learn to read the track surfaces, watch what the guys are doing that do well. You will find in the tractor pulling fraternity that even the ones who pull against you will be eager to help you get started, loan you weights, give advice on tire pressure , etc. Whatever you do , win or lose, be gracious to your fellow competitors, it will gain you much goodwill. The DC is an excellent choice as they pull well and add variety. We have pulled DC's since the 60's and have two Pa. state championship trophys in my possesion. Good luck, mEl
