I'm pretty sure he is talking about a Case.. But there used to be a 70D that turned over 3000rpms, he was running turbo on it. (the driver wore a helmet when he pulled)

First thing. Install, one, maybe 2, bags around the motor. All those parts can move REAL fast if she comes apart.

This message was also posted on the Case board, so I'm pretty sure he's talking about a CASE 730.
Still would need to beef up flywheel, rods, and pistons I would think, also get it to breathe better, and install safety shielding.
I would like to see one pull at that rpm if done right. My dad has one back in Nebraska.

Back in the late 60s or 70s some guy put a V8 in a Farmall with the IH flywheel it came apart, cut the tractor in half and sent several pepole to the ER. It hapended at the Ill. State Fair.

Maybe this guy is pulling a good tractor like a case 730. But i can understand how you might think its a JD as this board is nothing but red and green. If it is a case winder up and giver H.

Has anyone ever stopped to consider the liability associated with running a 730 gas at 3000 RPM? I would not worry as much if this guy sounded like he knew what it takes to make a 730 live at that RPM. But this guy sounds like he just wants to "get the old girl" up to 3000, almost like he just needs to prove that it can be done!?!?!????

I do not have a problem with people who are stupid enough to try this (without the proper safety equipment) and injure or kill themselves. It is really a matter of survival of the (mentally) fittest. I DO have a problem with this individual injuring innocent bystanders with the parts that very well might come flying out of that thing.

The other disturbing point is that I seem to be the only one on this board who is concerned with the safety (and liability) of this venture. Again, I just hate to see the sport of tractor pulling with a "black eye" because someone did not do there homework.

Then again, the lawyers would love to see him "get her to 3000RPM"....

PLEASE (do not do this, and) realize that even if you do "get her to 3000 RPMS", that the damn thing won't have any power there anyway. Why do you think that John Deere ran them (around) 1200 RPM from the factory?

No problem here - it looks like great minds think alike. That email address in your first post is too funny - killed@thepullbyflyingparts.ouch - I'm ROFLMAO. I know it sounds cruel, but I almost feel more sorry for the potential of destroying the tractor than I do for the potential of bodily injury to the guy trying to get it to 3000 rpm.
I guess Darwin is alive and well, even in this hobby.

There are several two cylinder John Deeres out there that are turning in the 3000 RPM range. Most around 3500. Some have had their stroke decreased.

I have no doubt that there are tractors out there that will turn that RPM. In my post I asked what modifications had been done, because running a stock tractor turning that speed is just asking to get someone hurt or killed. As far as decreasing stroke, it seems like it would be rather stupid to decrease displacement to increase rpm. Sounds like you're robbing Peter to pay Paul, but I'm not a pulling expert. All I can say, is that it would be a cold day in July before you ever caught me around a two-cylinder running that kind of rpm, regardless of the tractor, builder, or modifications - I don't like to tempt fate. My two cents.

I think that the governing board of that club that would let a two lunger run that , or try to run at that should have their head examined, I know a couple of old jd's that run some rpm I would not ever run but any thing above 1800 is really a bad idea, I don't care what is balanced or what is done, if that old cast flywheel is magnafluxed before every wind up, I still turn away, this is coming from a jd man too. Sounds like this person needs a v-8 class entry or hot farm to me , and a two cylinder isn't it in those areas. I hope that there club has a very good insurance policy and alot of luck. Please use some sense on safety or our hook fees will be $ 30.00 per hook or maybe no pulls at all.

Is this a JD 730 you're talking about? If so, what mods have you done to the 730? Do you really think it's safe to turn that engine at nearly three times it's rated high idle speed? Think about it - if the JD engineers thought that speed was safe or sustainable, they probably would have built the tractor to run that fast. Do the words catastrophic engine failure mean anything to you? If you really want it to run that fast, go for it - but make sure your insurance is paid up and that there are no innocent bystanders anywhere near the tractor - because you're going to be sitting on a bomb. You might also want it away from anything that you don't want the flywheel to go through - in case it falls off. And don't worry about getting it to idle good - because after a trip to 3000 rpm, that engine likely won't run again period - let alone idle. Please post back after you run it that fast, or instruct your next of kin to do it. Good luck.

Problem those people who would try the asinine act of running a 730 at 3000rpm probably breeds like a rat too with more children than they can handle/feed. Passing extra of those defective genes along hoping some may survive. Mechanical stress increases with the SQUARE of rpm so that 730 factory maxed out at 1250rpm fast idle, and that's rattling right along by the way. The internal forces will be 5.76 times greater at 3000rpm than the engineers speced the parts for continuous operation. Do this experiment all by your self & hope it's fatal so the county health system isn't over burdened. A custom 730 engine with titanium rods, lightweight pistons, titanium valves custom billet flywheel etc might make 3000rpm with a full kevlar wrap for safety. Power would be limited due to poor volumemetric efficiency however.

Remove governor weights, that carb will turn you at 3000 easy . Look at the position of throttle plate at rated speed. What do I think? It doesn't matter...Earl
