Will a Oliver engine 283 from a oliver 1800 fit into a 77 oilver 1952? And if not is there any modifications I can make to allow it to fit?

My dad shoehorned a 1600 engine into a 770 several years ago. The 1600 engine is physically the same size as a 283 just smaller cubes. The 770 frame is pretty much the same as a 77 or Super 77. All motor mounts match up. I think he said he had to modify the fan shroud to make it work. The 77, 770 has a 2" spacer to get the fan blade close into the fan shroud. 77 motor is 2" shorter than 283, 265, 310, etc. some changes might have to be made in the driveshaft area. Not sure what. The 1600 used a chain coupler while the 77 used the clamp-type shaft coupler. Basically have to make a 77 or 88 style drveshaft hook up to the 283 engine/clutch assy. It can be done and is not real difficult.

It will fit but, I believe you have to remove your fan and put an electric fan in. You may also have to change the input shaft to an 88. I know some of the guys on here that have done it will have more knowledge about it than me.
