Hello:

I'd like to do some pulling with a JD A in deadweight applications and moderate speed pulls. It's a late one (late engine, single stick tranny, square axle housings). Is 50 horsepower obtainable easy without boring/stroking? (If anything, I'll overbore and try to stay away from powerblocks).

Second question, can I make this tractor run on alcohol, has anyone ever seen this done? What would have to be done to ignition? How about the carburetor, who can I send it to? How about advantages besides running cool, much cleaner, and burning much hotter (energy as compared to regular gas).

Any help/suggestions appreciated, I'm rather new to 2 cylinder gassers.

Thanks!

Yeah, we have made em run on methanol and E85. Takes a good IGN, a good plug, a fast responding distributor,, electronic or MSD helps alot,,, You would have to enlarge both the idle and main load jets,,,, more fuel, bigger jets,,, once you can back the screws out and make it run way too rich, then its onto dialing in the timing and the distributor. Timing will be retarded more than usual,,,

Had a very strong, and wide rpm band torque curve,,,, hard to beat in dead weight pulling,,,, smooth and powerful torque dont break the tires loose but hooks up and goes!! drank it by the gallon they did,,,, low pressure helper fuel pump a must or a really high flowing line out of the tank to keep the carb bowl full. In the process of converting a JD 730 gasser over to methanol,,, soon as the weather warms up more,,,, LOL! Hope this helps,,,, ChadS ChadS3@hotmail.com
