Hi,
I have a 1937 B John Deere short frame and i am having an oil leak from between the block and main case. The problem I am having is that the tractor has had a 1K paint job that is slicker than snot put on last year and i really hate to do anything to it. I ordered a new gasket for that as well as for the valve cover. What i want to do is this:
1. leave the tractor asembled as much as possible.
2. leave as small of a mark as possible on my EXPO paint job.

So, what i am getting to is i want to pull the inspection plate, pull the rod caps, slide the pistons forward in the block, pull gas tank etc to get to the engine, leave maifold on, unbolt the block/head assembly and mearly pull the whole thing forward in the frame, put the new gasket on and then shove it all back together and reconnect the rods/rod caps in one fell swoop. Is this possible or mearly wishful thinking. Is there anything else anyone who has done something like this before can suggest or give me tips? I hate to do this but if i am going to have my tractor in the JD collectors center this fall i want it to be "right." Plus i dont like having a huge puddle of oil under my tractor in a parade after sitting for 4 minutes!
SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE!
Thanks in advance chuck mcdonald

I believe Clooney had a post on the JD board a while back about this where the leak actually was from around a bolt that leaked on the side of the nut. He took the nut off and sealed that area around the bolt up and put nut back on and was done. You might yell for him over there and make sure. SOunds a heck of a lot easier than plan B.
