I have an International 484 diesel I purchased new in 1984 or 1986. It has approximately 1200 hours on it and it is becoming increasingly difficult to shift the tractor into 3rd gear (H pattern) whether in low or high range or reverse. 4th gear is not as easily shifted into as 1st or 2nd either, but 3rd gear seems to encounter almost a metal to metal blockage now just before entering into the 3rd gear slot of the H pattern. I disconnected the linkage from the transmission and proved the problem is not within the transmission itself. None of the manuals I have for the tractor address anything like this. It has to be in the linkage/shift lever mechanism somehow. Any ideas? Thanks a bunch.

Our 484 does the same thing periodically. Do as the "vet" says and adjust the linkage also. If you don't have a manual that explains the adjustment procedure, let me know!

I believe thatit will be nesasery to remove the linkage and clean and lube it now i have never run into this on a smaller tractors i have had to do this on the 86 series as dirt and rust make it hard to shift. So if it is shifting ok at the trans then get into the linkage as it should shift smoothe .
