Thanks to all who responded to my message from a couple days ago.
I took everyone's advice and checked everything that was suggested.
Water pump works.
Radiator doesn't seem to have any blockage.
No cracks in head or block.
BUT - I found dirt and grass in the radiator fins. Question - how much blockage in the radiator fins will cause overheating?

Don't be so sure about the radiator being free
flowing. You can still have some plugged tubes , but it will still flow water out the drain. When you put it under a load, it needs a lot of water moving thru it. I have run M's with dirt in the fins and that usually doesn't bother them. More of than not it is a clogged radiator that causes them to heat up.

That could defenitely do it. I know when I am brushogging with my 9n in the summer I sometimes get a lot of buildup in the radiator. It is pretty hard to overheat a 9n though. It is basically like having a piece of cardboard over the radiator. No air flow, no cooling. Good luck.

Re junk in the radiator fins: Probably not much, considering tractors work under heavy loads and at very slow speeds; whizzing along in a car at 40 or 50 or so crams a lot of air thru a radiator, which I learned the hard way (overheating in town, fine on the hiway). If that"s your cure, don"t feel bad; plenty of others got caught tearing everything apart and scratching their(our) heads when we couldn"t find anything wrong.

Depends on a good number of things. Out side temp, what your doing with it and what type of stuff is on/in the fins
