jt, That 730 D requires some serious battery capacity to crank, especially in cold climates. I would fill the battery compartment with all the lead n acid n plates that physically fits into n fills the box as full as possible. One might fit two large six volt batteries in series or two large 12 volt batteries in paralell. It originally had four sixes, right, so its a fairly big compartment that should hold two or more big batteries no problem, and Id want it pretty dern full.

I believe if it were mine I would buy two new matched of the heaviest amp/hr and CCA (1100 and over) rated 12 volt batteries I could find that will still physically fit into the compartment and wire them, of course, in paralell. One could also consider two or more (how ever many will fit) of the newer AGM type batteries all wired in paralell as they offer very high amp/hr and CCA for their size but they are more expensive.

Then I would use 00 Gauge Battery n Starter n Ground cables and run the ground cable to a big clean main frame type bolt close to the starter even better.

Let er Hapn Capn

John T,
Thanx for the reply. You've confirmed my suspicions! The cables look good and I had the starter checked at an electrical shop. Gotta go shopping now. Cold weather isn't the problem here in Texas! 101 on Monday! jt
