I own a ford 860, the 3 pt hitch hydralics do not lift very high. It will lift a brush hog but not very far off the ground. What could i do to correct this?

Thanks Justin

You may already have your answer on this but I've encountered the same problem with my 1956 model 850 which is the same as yours but not live PTO.

You will need to remove the seat, disconnect the lifting arm links and remove all the perimeter bolts so you can lift off the hydralic control mechanism. (It's sort of heavy so be prepared.)

Once you have it off and turned over on your work bench you will find that the position control handle moves a very large cast iron cam arrangement which has a small round follower pin that rides against it. I'm doin this all from memory of many years ago but the pin will likely have worn down considerably on the side that rides on the cast iron cam. Simply drive out the pin and replace it.

Several shops insisted I had to have all the linkage readjusted as it was likely all worn inside. Nothing could be farther from the truth. A new pin and everything works perfect.

For what it's worth I found the surface of the cam was never machined and Ford allowed a rough surface cast iron surface to rub against a mild steel pin. I took a die grinder to the cast iron cam and polished the surface. This was over 25 or 30 years ago and I've never been back in there since.

Regards,
