Hello Everyone, This is my second time to post a question.

I am having problems getting spark to my tractor. It has a magneto setup as well as a LPG tank. Just had the LPG filled and it turns over, but no spark. I just replaced the cap and plug wires and nothing. How do you check a magneto and how do you start a tractor that has a magneto. This tractor had a 12V battery hooked up to it with a starter switch and a kill switch. I charged the battery and it turns over great (positive ground).

Any and all help would be great.

Thank you,

Daniel
San Angelo, TX

Most of the time if a mag doesn't have spark, it means the points need to be cleaned and or replaced. Or your kill switch has gone bad

Thank you for your reply. I will go to Tractor Supply and see if they have a set of points and condensor. It may have to be ordered, as they do not stock a lot of the older parts. Kill switch can be disconneted to see if that is he problem (is this correct) as long as the wire is not grounded.

Thank you again,

Daniel

Yep kill switch can be unhooked to see if thats the problem. You also have to make sure you ask for points for a mag since they are differant then the points for a distubutor

Thank you again for your reply. Do I need to remove the Magneto from the tractor or is most of this accessible from the tractor. I have done points and condensor on cars (been a few years) so I think I can handle this. I purchased a tune up kit from Tractor Supply for the H-4 Magneto ignition. Hope to get it done in the next day or so. I have a short on the starter now, but should be an easy fix. The starter is grounding out at the connection from the battery.

Thank you so much for your replys. I had posted one earlier last week and did not get anything, but I think I am making progress. Would really like to convert back to gas at some time, but finding that can be expensive.

Daniel

Should be able to do it right on the tractor but it may be just a little tricky doing so. Not sure on that mag if you have a problem whith retimeing it or not. Some of them you do some you don't and I don't know much about that mag.

You most only have one tractor. I have so many of them that if they all ran I could drive one each day of the month and never drive the same one till the next month. At times it can be fun just keeping the ones that run, running.
