I have heard a couple of reasons why the 3 point lift sags back down when a bush hog, etc is lifted up. But I would like to hear from someone who has fixed this problem, without rebuilding the whole pump section?? It really makes it hard to do a job when its alwaays leaking back down to the ground.

you need to isolate the problem, you can have a leak in your cylinder or leaking past your spool in your valve, or leaking through a relief valve not familiar with 8n but if you raise your 3 point with weight on it and then block it up. Then you will cap off both your hydraulic lines to the cylinder and unblock, if it leaks down it is your cylinder if it's not leaking down well my next would be rebuilding relief valve

Don't rely on what you hear.. or what other posters 'think'.

It takes about 1 minute with a flashlight and a small mirror to VERIFY exactly where your leak in your hyd system is coming from by looking into the right side round "inspection' cover with the lift running and a load on it. Look for squirts and sprays. Prime areas are leaky cyl.. leaky gasket betwixt cyl and top cover.. leaky gasket from top cover to hyd center section, leaky standpipe, leak between gasket of center section and pump base plate. Pump chamber gaskets.. or cracked covers, or loose plugs, leaky relief valve.

Figure 100$ to drop in a new piston and rubber/leather ting, hone your cyl, replace relief, and re-gasket everything.. double that if you need a new cyl.

( re-did my 8n hyds 2? years ago ).. Would leak down from full up to full down in 30 seconds.. now holds lift up 1 week with 150# load.. and 2-3 days with full load..

I think it is your lift cylinder and piston and not your pump. I had the same problem and I honed out the cylinder and put in new piston and rings. It helped a bunch but it still leaks down. Mine was very well used and worn and I should have put a new assembly in it. They are readily available now and not that expensive for a brand new cylinder, piston and rings. Good luck.
