MF-135 hour meter doesn't work

The hour meter of our Massey Ferguson 135 has stopped working. The RPM meter works fine so the tractormeter drive cable must work correctly. What could cause the problem and can it be repaired? Can the tractormeter be disassembled without braking it?

The RPM needle is also a bit rusted. If I ever disassemble the meter (if it can be done) what do you recommend I should use to restore the needle. I remember reading somewhere that gauge needles canno"t be painted because it adds the weight thus resulting in incorrect readings. But this one has two ends so it is in balance. Does this make a difference?

All answers will be appreciated.

You can buy those MF tractormeters brand new and simply swap it out. Check the tractor gauge listing for MF parts on this website and you'll find 'em. Cost about $51.00. You'll probably find that's a small price to pay to avoid having to refurbish the old one.

I know guys that have rebuilt ford proof meters.. but it is a labor of love.. you have to find salvage parts.. pry on the bezel.. etc.. unless this is an original you are trying to retain for restoration.. I'd just replace it..
