I have a '77 3000 Ford that I put a new Engine in about 900 hrs ago. Recently, the tractor will run great for a while and then begin to miss as if it was low on diesel then die and will not crank until I bleed the injector lines. I have replaced the fuel filter; cleaned the fuel tank; bled every recommended place on the fuel system. I have worn out one 3000 like this and I thought I knew how to keep this type Ford diesel running but I am wrong. I am at my wit's end. Can anyone here help me?

I had the same symptoms a couple of years ago with my "67 Ford 4000. I was working on some roads at a nearby hunting club and had to walk 3 miles home. The cost of a mechanic to make a field visit was out of the question so I had to solve it myself, and I"m no mechanic. Eventually I found that dead wasps had clogged up the gas pickup in the bottom of the tank. I guess the wasps had a nest in my 5 gal diesel tank and I poured them into the tank. I now keep a cloth over my 5 gal can and also filter my diesel thru a sock when I fill my tractor. What I don"t know usually costs me.

Deffinately sounds like fuel supply problem. When my 7610s did this, it was a restricted fuel valve at the tank,.. it would flow/seep enough to fill the filters and line to the pump so i could bleed it, and drain water traps.. looked ok.. I could start her.. but as soon as I throttled up.. or waited a few minutes.. the ij pump would suck the small buildup pf diesel from the filer and lines dry, then she would sputter and die.

A 25$ valve and oring from CNH fixed my problem. I was out in a field miles from my house when this happened. No truck.. I was stranded. I actually got a ride to the dealer and back, and changed that $#@% valve out in the field on my back in the sand and sun with a pair of pliers and wrench i kept in the tool box.. It leaked a tad.. but it got me home so I could remove the valve, hit it with thread sealer and reinstall it. On the bright side, all the diesel pouring on me kept most of the ants off me!!
