Fabricating Replacement 3 point Arms

Between thr rust and wear on the lower link arms
on my 47 year old M-H 44 Special, I searched for
arms. More tired iron, at high prices. One
suggestion was to buy new ends from SpeeCo, use
5/8"x3" mild steel, and weld up replacements.
Any conflicts when going this method? I did not
plan any maximum pull workout for the 3 point,
but building hack-junk is best avoided. Anyone
taken this path, as a solution to worn arms?

Replacement ends come in 2 forms. One is to cut 3/4 of the old ball swivel and grind to fit new swivels and weld. The 2nd is to cut the end off, taper the cut and weld on new ends, these have a 3" section of iron already attached to the ball. I've seen both types at the old Quality stores. I bought mine from doitbest.com .[must be bought on line] TSC should have also

Mick I just finished making a three point hitch for my JD50 using weld on ends on a piece of 5/8 plate laser cut to taper from 3in. in the center to the size of the ball ends. They turned out very nice and after painting you cannot tell they are not 1 piece factory lift arms. I can email pictures if you would like to see them. and could cut you some plates if you want. good luck Willy

Willy, I would be interested in seeing your
photos of the replacement arms you built. Please e mail the photos, when you have a
chance. What would you estimate the cost to
be for them? Thank you.
