Ok, this might have been addressed before but I can't seem to find any info on it. My 8N will run for a while (10 min +/-) then stall. I wait a few minutes (5 min) and it restarts and stalls again (2 min). I cleaned all three fuel filters (all were very dirty) and then tried to start it. Nothing, very flooded. So, I adjusted the carb thinking that the PO had it wide open becase fuel flow was so poor. Fired right up, for 10 min and stalled again!!! Now what?

For those interested, here is how it turned out. Replaced the coil, plugs, wires, points, condenser, cleaned the distributor. Wouldn"t even start now. Checked, rechecked timing, wires, plugs, points, etc. Nothing. Finally put the old coil back on, fired right up, ran for 10 min or so and stalled. Looked at the coil "12 volt" sticker on the side. I specifically ordered a 6 volt coil. Lesson learned, just because I am new with this and don"t know much, don"t assume the guy at the store knows more!!

Old Ford fires right up now with a 6 volt coil but still need to work on some sputtering, probably fuel mixture not right or timing a little off.

Thanks for suggestions!

You might want to check that the fuel cap vent is open and not clogged.

Here is a copy of part of a post from the N tractor series forum on this site that may help---
If you look on that forum, there have been a lot of posts that will help you determine what your problem is in addition to the good suggestions you already received---Good Luck---Tim

There are 4-common runtime issues with N-Tractors.

1) runs for about 1-minute and quits, restarts about 5-mins; BAD condenser 2) runs for about 5-mins and stalls out; restarts about 10-mins; CLOGGED fuel filters 3) runs for about 15-mins and stalls out; restarts after about 30-min cooldown;
GUNKED UP IGNITION SWITCH GUTTZ 4) runs for about 1-hr and stalls out; restarts after overnite cooldown; BAD squarecan ignition coil

Get a coffee can. With the engine off and fuel petcock open, pull the plug out of the carburetor bowl and let the gasoline flow into the coffee can you hold under it.

Let it fill the can, and watch the flow while it does this. You're probably going to see the flow suddenly taper way off, telling you that there is still a restriction in the fuel supply.

Another possibility is heat induced ignition failure. Start the engine and run it until it stalls. Immediately check for spark. If you don't have it, then diagnose where it went.

Did the fuel line/coffee can thing already. Certain that fuel flow is not the problem. Going to try the spark check tonight after work. Thank you for adice!
