I was trying to get the license plate light to work on my 1969 car, there is power to the socket but the bulb(several bulbs) do not light up unless I actually ground the socket that holds the bulb, its all clean in there, on its own the bulb will not light up,cleaned off the bracket that holds the pigtail but does not help.Hope I explained my problem ok.Any thoughts? Thanks,Dan in AB

Well you sort of answer the question your self when you said if you ground the socket. Your problem is where ever it goes its not grounded. If its in the bumper like a good many are the bumper mount on the car is probably so rusty that its no longer grounded . You can run a ground wire right to the socket and fix it or you can clean up all places that thing bolt on amd fix the problem but the wire will be easier to do

I have even soldered a ground wire directly to the bulb socket, and then fastened that wire directly to the frame. Used the same trick on tailights that worked, but just weren't as bright as I thought they should be. That extra ground wire will really brighten things up.
