Are any tractor guys using the Optima 6V battery? I have switched over all my vehicles over to them (12V models) over the last 6 years. No more crusty terminals. No more outgassing. They hold a charge longer than conventional lead acid batteries. They are spiral gel cell sealed. Thus they are not vibration damaged like conventional lead plate batteries. They charge faster than conventional too. I'm just wonder how much tractor guys have got into them with the 6V model? If it's not widespread is it just cost? I just bought one for $98. I've also seen them on the web for $105 which is probably a good price. I haven't seen many 6V units in retail, only on the web. 12V units are $109 at Pepboys. I think these will do especially well on tractors as they can sit longer than cars usually do, and they probably see more vibration and run down from tractor problems.

Thanks fellas. I didn"t know how aware this community was of the Optima batteries and their advantages over conventional ones. To me it justifies any existing price difference.

Just letting you know i have been using a optima 6 volt battery in my 51 8n for a couple years now and its not corroding, starts right up and I have been very pleased so far,My neighbor has a 12 volt setup in his 8n and I feel mine starts almost as easily as his, I will know more in a couple years but so far so good ,just my opinion.

I haven't used an Optima but what I have used is a Solargizer battery desulfator Link
Last>Link fall the 6v in my '52 Farmall Super M was just barely makin it and hot starts were absolutely a no-go.
I put the solargizer on and put the solar panel where it'd get sun all day in the garage window. This spring I put the battery charger for 2 full days before I tried it but when I did it was just great. I think I've had that battery for 5 years, I won't say its like new but its surely taken it back a couple years.... I figure if I can get 2 more years out of that battery the $20 I paid (on eBay) for the Solargizer was worth it.

Brad, if you go over to the John Deere Discussion Board and post something like a "Battery Question for FIT" Im sure he (Frank) will respond as he has used the Optima 6 volt battery and had good luck n he can tell you his experience with it.

Next time I need a battery if Auto Zone(best price here) carries 6 volt.I am well pleased with the 12 volt ones I have bought so far.It is so nice to hear a tractor crank over that has set for a long time without fussing with a booster cable or charger.
