I'm having a problem with my 15 year old motor, a Briggs & Stratton 16 horse Twin II. It seems to run really hot after 10 minutes or so, and loses power. I changed the oil, didn't smell gassy. Is there something that would cause oil to not get to the cyliders? I pulled off the tin covers, there's no grass or anything blocking the air.

After you check all the things on the list check the Crank shaft Key on the flywheel if it is halfway sheared the engine will still run but will run HOT had this to happen on 1 1/2 HP engine . on Roper mower I had a few years back it about drove me up wall trying to find trouble .My uncle is still using it is 84 model .

Things to check: Clogged muffler? Fuel mixture screw adjusted correctly? Anything wrapped around the lower crankshaft? If it's a mower, are the blades spinning freely?
